I studied abroad in:
Greece
I graduated (or will graduate) in (year):
2012
More about me:
I'm a current member of the 2011 Travelers in Greece Program. I'll be using this site to blog about my experiences.
My home campus is Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, where I am a rising senior studing creative writing. I am also a varsity tennis player for Oberlin's women's tennis team. After I graduate next spring, I hope to attend a creative writing MFA program and one day go on to teach writing at the collegiate level. Eduaction, reading, writing, and experiencing new cultures are all very important to my passion and study of writing. During the school year, I maintain a blog focused on the written-arts culture of Oberlin College at www.ocbooklove.wordpress.com. I also write for the sports section of Oberlin's campus paper, The Oberlin Review, and will take up the position of sports editor next fall.

"I hope you had a wonderful experience abroad, Ariel! Although from all of your blog entries, it definitely seems like you did. The description of your flight has me a bit worried about my own return to the States, though, yikes!"

Home Sweet Home

Greetings from Florida!I've been here for a day and a half now and it's hard to even remember what I was doing four, five days ago.  But...I think I was in Kefalonia, having my last two classes, packing for the return to Athens, doing laundry, walking 30 minutes to get food in town...pretty much the same old thing we did every day in Kefalonia. I did spend one very nice afternoon at the 5-star hotel-across-the-street's pool, and I had almost forgotten how nice pool water could be compared to…See More

Ithaca

Today we went on a day cruise around Ithaca, the home of Homer's legendary Odysseus.  If exhaustion is any indication of fun, then I had an amazing time today!  I am sitting in the hotel lobby and the only thing motivating me to write this post is the fact that I want you all to see the pictures I posted:…See More

Around the Island

Today we had our field trip/tour of the island, and it was one of my favorite visits so far!  We left the hotel at 9:30 and drove a short ways to Melissani Cave, which is an underground cave and lake.  The water comes underground all the way from the opposite side of the island near Argostoli, and is very cold!  It is a mix of sea and fresh water, "brackish" water it is called.  Walking down the tunnel to reach the cave, I was struck by a gust of very crisp air (yes! I have been waiting for a…See More

Cephallonia day 3

I have a little down time this afternoon after class, so I can get some homework done and update you all as to what's been going on here. Yesterday was a free day and I used it to get a little taste of everything--I slept in until 10, walked into town for lunch (had chicken and pasta at "Mermaid's", a taverna), walked back and took a little nap, went for a run and did some abs, went swimming in the sea and laid out on the beach, showered, walked into town for dinner (omlette and yogurt with…See More

Ohh But the Breeze Feels Good!

Sitting downstairs in the lobby of our latest Hotel, Hotel Athina Beach, on the island of Cephallonia (Kefalonia).  There is a cool breeze coming in from the balcony and I am eating a juicy peach!  Doesn't get much better than this :) Tomorrow was yet another long day (perhaps one of our longest so far), which explains why there was no post yesterday.  We loaded onto the bus and left our hotel in Olympia at 10:15 and drove over to our field trip at the Ancient Olympia site.  The drive was only…See More

"I agree with J below, four weeks seems like no time at all when you're studying abroad! I like how detailed your writing is, and it will definitely help you keep the memories for years to come. I'm very jealous you get to go to Olympia,…"
