Pseudomermex ants are seen here feeding from extra floral nectaries provided by their host acacia tree. In this mutual symbiosis, the acacia tree provides food and shelter for the ants, and in return the ants defend the tree from herbivores as well as trim back nearby vegetation to decrease resource competition for the tree.
